TRIALS FOR KINGS PLATE Speygold and Sam Worthy Work a Mile in 142 in Great Style W S Kilmers Application for Stalls at atWoodbine Woodbine Park Received Rosedalo RosedaloStables Stables Juveniles Arrive TORONTO Ont May 9 The first im ¬ portant happening of the Kings Plate train ¬ ing season developed Wednesday morning when W H Wrigl s pair of eligibles Spey pold and Sam Worthy went a mile in 14256 to better by threefifths of a second Horom eters splendid trial over the same distance Monday morning It was thought at the time that the Hourless geldings time would provide something for the other candidates to shoot at for some days but the Wright pair was not long in lowering that training mark markMr Mr Wright who has cherished the one ambition of breeding a Kings Plate winner himself ever since he took over the old Dyment property at Barrie some years back was on hand along with trainer Murt Macivor to witness the test and to say that he was highly pleased is putting it mildly mildlyThe The crowd of work watchers reacted en ¬ thusiastically to the splendid trial too for Mr Wright is very popular with the racing fans and the workout was the popular topic of conversation all over the course for the balance of the morning morningThe The pair was on the track about 9 oclock and after a preliminary gallop broke together going the first quarter in 24 the second in 25 to reach the half in 50 even the third quarter in 26 which brought them to the sixfurlong mark in 116 and they topped off the trial with a last quarter in 26 for the splendid mile I time of 142 That last quarter was what pleased their owner and trainer most for they had not been urged unduly and on even terms throughout could have done better had it been required This trial was of special interest in a season when one horse appeared to stand out as far as Horometer has The big son of Hourless can undoubtedly do better than his mile in 143 and undoubtedly will but at least it can be figured that he will not have matters entirely his own way if the Wright pair continue to train as well as they have so far farW W S Kilmers application has been re ¬ ceived for stalls at Woodbine Park The Canadian division of this owners pretentious stable will number fifteen head and will be in charge of Jack Pryce The campaign of this stable in Canada will also embrace the Thorncliffe Park and Hamilton meetings according to present arrangements The majority of the string will be juveniles and EnvoyI the older members will include Sun Envoy and Sun Monk Happy Hopes from the R S McLaughlin stable which is being prepared for a cam paign through the field this season was wasdue due at the Ontario Jockey Club course from winter quarters at Oakville Wednesday aft ¬ ernoon J C Fletchers stable now racing at Ken ilworth Park Windsor will be augmented at Woodbine Park by four racers coming from the farm at Downsview The six Rosedale Stable juveniles which checked in Tuesday afternoon from Cumber land Park Nashville Tenn are Surcouf bay gelding by Masked Marvel II Henri ¬ etta Wildair Silk Mask by Masked Marvel H Flying Cloud II Brico bay colt by White Satin Billie Burke Young Satin black colt by White Satin Apteria Banda lore brown filly by Masked Marvel II Lady Caroline and Judic brown filly by Masked Marvel H Coelia This stable belongs to George Clark a Canadian and the juveniles are under the care of George White Elmo Pulliam a par withthe ticularly promising apprentice rider is with the stable and will do most of the riding hereabouts hereaboutsThe The infield was opened for schooling Wednesday morning and J McNamara took his Leadgold for a turn of the field Mrs Katherine Christies Red Shank ridden by Ted Kennedy and Dragon de Vertu with the popular amateur rider an polo player Tony Smith aboard also were jumped once around all showing good form
