AURORAS OFFDAY CARD Cheaper Horses Furnish Exciting Entertainment for Spectators Well Built and Jockey Otto Harbort Win Main Race Arcaro Vic ¬ torious in Three Races AURORA 111 May 14 Mondays Aurora program was of the off day variety and it was left to performers of the lower grades to furnish the sport The fifth race called the Big Rock Claiming Purse was the best race on the card and engaged platers of the 1000 class for a test of one mile and a six ¬ teenth This resulted in a victory for Mrs E B Carpenters Well Built his first since the Miami season and the second of the year Sambo Brown followed the winner past the line of finish one and onehalf lengths back and three in advance of Dispatcher which just lasted to nose out Port o Play and then came Enro and Bosom Pal the only other starters startersApprentice Apprentice Otto Harbort the Texas youngster had the mount on the winner and rode him cleverly throughout the race Taking his mount under reserve in the early stages the victor raced close to the pace and was so eager to run at top speed that Harbort had to let him go on and he quickly opened up a commanding lead Dispatcher gave the winner the strongest contention after he went to the front and moved up to him with a rush as they made the turn into the stretch but the victor readily turned him back and when subjected to mild pres ¬ sure drew away and easily held sway to the end endDISPLAYS DISPLAYS GOOD SPEED SPEEDIn In the run through the stretch Sambo Brown finished with good speed and readily supplanted Dispatcher in the runnerup po ¬ sition and the latter was under strong rid ¬ ing to withstand Port o Play which fin ¬ ished in resolute fashion and barely missed taking third thirdEnro Enro an invader from Texas in the stable of W A Mikel came in for much support but at no time was a dangerous factor be ¬ ing outrun from the start startAn An excellent crowd was on hand for the sport which was conducted under overcast skies and over a fast track Jockey E Ar ¬ caro distinguished himself by riding three winners during the afternoon afternoonThe The largest field of twoyearolds during the meeting competed in the fourth race when eleven juveniles lined up for the start and at the end of the four and onehalf fur ¬ longs journey Mrs J Chesneys Jimmy N had the decisive advantage of two arid one half lengths over Sparkling Rose and third went to the favored Proposing The winner outrun to the final three sixtenths gained rapidly thereafter and after being taken to the middle of the track continued gamely under the strong riding of Tracy Reno and quickly disposed of Sparkling Rose which had subdued Margies Doll and then disposed of Brilliant Dee but could not resist the belated rush of the winner winnerARCAROS ARCAROS SUCCESSFUL RETURN RETURNJockey Jockey Eddie Arcaro signalled his return to the saddle when he rode C E Davisons Polyphote to victory in the first race which engaged seven of the less capable sprinters over the five and onehalf furlongs course Vladimir an outsider in the betting ac ¬ counted for the place award while third went to Judge Dixon another that was held in light esteem by the patrons patronsThe The performance of Hooligan was of a dull nature when under the veteran Jimmy McCoy he failed to be a factor factorAnother Another favorite made good when Miss Chilla scored in easy fashion in the second race when under a clever ride by apprentice Paul Keester she led almost from the start to finish one and onehalf lengths in ad ¬ vance of Transbird which was second under the inexperienced R Moon while Barash kova among the prominent ones from the break closed in third place placeTransbird Transbird might have been best for after overcoming sharp interference early he was good enough to come from almost last place to get his placing and finished fastest of all Continued on twentysecond page AURORAS OFFDAY CARD Continued from first page Cheers made an auspicious return to com ¬ petition when he made a show of his op ¬ ponents in the third race Strongly favored to get away with honors the Davison rep ¬ resentative led from the start and led home Gallopette his nearest rival by two lengths while third went to Harmonical This marked a double for the Davison stable and jockey Eddie Arcaro ArcaroThe The C E Davison colors which were very much in the limelight during the day fig ¬ ured in another victory when Annan made it three for that establishment defeating a band of the useful type sprinters over three quarters Carrying 110 pounds the winner raced the distance in 112 and finished with a one length margin over Flashing Thru which set the pace to the final eighth and after racing Oziti into defeat failed to stave off the winner It was the second winner for Keester who rode the victor in clever fashion
