REPRESENT RACE COMMISSION Weston to Be Steward at Fairmount and Bachman Mutuel Director Collinsvillo Course Ready to Throw Open OpenGates Gates Meeting Begins May 26 26and and Ends July 4 COLLINSVILLE 111 May 14 The ap ¬ pointment of A B Weston as steward and Oscar Bachman as director of the mutuel department at Fairmount Park which opens its summer season May 26has met with the approval of fans and press on all sides Both are capable men and are direct representa ¬ tives of the newly created Illinois Racing Commission CommissionUnder Under the supervision of the commission which has that capable veteran Christopher J FitzGerald in the stand and TBachman in the mutuel plant at the Fox Valley course in Aurora everything has operated smoothly Favorites were getting down at the rate of fortyfive per cent in the second week The fact that the betting stops when the first horse reaches the post instead of when the horses get off has made a ML Last minute shifting of odds is prevented and comeback money must be deposited five minutes be ¬ fore post Joe Cattarinich approves this plan because it eliminates the too frequent last minute builds engineered by sharp ¬ shooters shootersFairmount Fairmount Park never has presented a more colorful appearance than at the pres ¬ ent time as the advance crew makes ready for the thirtyfour day summer meeting Which starts May 26 and runs through July 4 The track is ready to open tomorrow more than one hundred horses being on the grounds working daily Four hundred addi ¬ tional horses will come here from Aurora and two hundred from Texas points It is also expected thatmany horses will ship in from Ohio OhioThe The concessions will be conducted by a new manager this season with an idea of better service to the public Some of St Louis outstanding society people and busi ¬ ness men are being solicited for club mem ¬ bership in addition to the elite of the terri ¬ tory immediately surrounding Collinsville and southern Illinois
