June 11 The Avondale Purse at five and a half furlongs was the feature on todays program at Latonia and it brought out ten of the better grade two yearolds six of them eligibles for the Cin ¬ cinnati Trophy to be run here Saturday The winner of the race was Mrs John Hay Whit ¬ neys No Saint a son of High Time and Sister Joan which was shipped here several days ago from New York and turned over to Mose Goldblatt GoldblattBy By the manner in which the Whitney geld ¬ ing performed today he sounded a warning note that he would be hard to beat in the Trophy No Saint won by a length and a half after one time holding a lead on his rivals of four lengths Star Banner not eli ¬ gible for the Trophy was second while Sora which is a candidate for the stake was third thirdNo No Saint took command after going a lit ¬ tle more than a quarter of a mile and main ¬ tained an advantage the rest of the way Star Banner had some difficulty keeping up during the early stages of the race but once straightened out for the run home closed a big gap to take second money a length and a half in front of Sora which also come from far back backManners Manners Man which scored impressively here the other day and which was expected to offer keen competition today showed speed for a half mile but tired badly in the stretch and wound up fourth Elwawa a stablemate of the latter also was in the fight to the stretch but he also tired in the run home homeNo No Saint ridden by Eddie Legere was the favorite in the race He negotiated the five and a half furlongs in 108 108Summerlike Summerlike weather prevailed and the largest Monday crowd of the meeting was on hand for the sport sportMaster Master Beau a rank outsider in the bet ¬ ting owned by Thomas Piatt accounted for the opening dash which engaged ten maiden twoyearold colts and geldings The son of Master Charlie won in a dingdong finish with Too Busy the favorite which he beat a head headThese These two juveniles had the race much to the way took show money Gold Reserve showed early speed but could not keep up with the leaders and dropped out of it In the stretch run The winner paid 7600 for 2 2The The wellbacked Lady Pal owned by the racing establishment of Darnaby Thomp ¬ son took down the second race which was also decided by a close finish Taking the lead shortly after the break Lady Pal wid ¬ ened her margin on her rivals until she enjoyed a threelength advantage at the head of the stretch From there on how ¬ ever Glamorous began closing in on the pacemaker and just missed taking the big end of the purse by a half length Two lengths farther back came Santerno which closed in on the leaders rounding the turn after starting slowly The winner ridden by L Canfield paid 9 to 10 10Beginning Beginning last and racing in that poslr tion for more than a quarter of a mile Lady of Grace owned by L V Bellow Jr literally towroped her opponents in the stretch to win the third race on the card She beat Oh Dave second choice a length and a half going away while Imelda the favorite was third in the field of twelve twelveLady Lady of Grace was lucky to find racing room on the turn in the large field and when straightened out for the run to tJ finish jockey R Finnerty drove her up on the outside to get the decision Oh Dave was close up from the start and though best of the others was no match for the winner Imelda also raced in a forward posiiton all the way wayMorley Morley Firth had all the early speed and led to the stretch where he quit as If short finishing eleventh eleventhThe The Lyric Purse at six furlongs secondary attraction and fourth race on the card was won by Mrs W E Smiths Sallie Gray In handy fashion with Hy Blaze second and Amazing third thirdSallie Sallie Gray made every post a winning one and but for a brief period at the head of the stretch was never seriously threat ¬ ened My Blaze moved up to her at this point but jockey G Fowler gave the filly a lash of the whip and she drew away and won by two lengths Witches Night was closest to Sallie Grays pace during the early stages of the race but she had nothing left when the field reached the stretch and she finished last in the field of seven sevenSallie Sallie Gray scoring her second victory of the meeting negotiated the threequarters in 113 113Mose Mose Goldblatts Habanero once again was established a prohibitive favorite and once more disappointed his backers this time by the narrowest of margins He was A Brauses Why mask which engaged the Goldblatt gelding In a head and head battle from the eighth post to the finish Habanero seemed to sulk near the finish though this Is little consola ¬ tion to those vrio made him an oddson fa ¬ vorite Migosh was third to complete the mile and a furlong over which six competed
