FOUR EASTERN DERBY HOPES REACH DETROIT Chicstraw Kawagoe Swiftsport and Gay Monarch Arrive at Motor City Cavalcade Time Clock and Discovery Due This Morn ¬ ing Dozen or More Starters Assured for 25000 Added Prize DETROIT Mich June 13 Chicstraw Kawagoe Swiftsport and Gay Monarch four eastern threats for Detroit Derby honors reached the Fair Grounds track this morning They are the advance guard of seven coming from the Atlantic seaboard to contest for the 25000 added prize that will be decided at one mile and threesixteenths here Saturday The other trio Cavalcade Time Clock and Discovery will arrive here tomorrow The arrival of Gay Monarch was a distinct surprise to the management Although the son of Royal Minstrel showed a splendid perform ¬ ance in the Belmont Stakes trainer Max Hirsch did not notify the management that he was sending the A C Schwartz colt westward His son Buddy Hirsch who is training a stable here was equally surprised for he had received no word from his father fatherAlthough Although westerners proclaim Cavalcade a great threeyearold he appears to hold no fear for his eastern pals Despite his bril ¬ liant victories in the Chesapeake Stakes and the Kentucky and American Derbys besides his bangup second to his stablemate High Quest in the Preakness Stakes the eastern boys still believe they will be able to turn back the son of Lancegaye During their twoyearold campaigns Cavalcade and Chic ¬ straw were near evenly matched They have yet to meet this season seasonWhile While Cavalcade has improved greatly this year Chicstraw his won only one race That was a mile and a furlong allowance affair in which he beat Good Goods Rose Cross and others In the Belmont Stakes however Good Goods finished ahead of the s a of Chicle and Last Straw That race was at one mile and a half and Andrew Jackson Joyner the dean of American trainers undoubtedly be ¬ lieves that the mile and threesixteenths of f the Detroit Derby will be more to his liking T or the colt would not have arrived here 2 today His stablemate Kawagoe and George 1 Willing Jrs Swiftsport came in the same 2 car with four others that were turned over r to Johnny Zoeller ZoellerTrainer Trainer Scott Harlan personally directed j the journey of Swiftsport which has yet to J start against Cavalcade and Chicstraw He 3 did his twoyearold campaigning in the a Continued on twelfth page FOUR EASTERN DERBY DERBYHOPES HOPES KMlri DETROIT DETROITContinued Continued from first uyeJ West and finished the year with four vic ¬ tories to his credit He was purchased from Allan Gallaher this spring and was shipped to Maryland The son of Swift and Sure and Lady Sportsman made his 1934 debut at Pimlico against a field of older horses He finished second to Sea Fox FoxHis His next enort was at Belmont Park against Halcyon Good Advice and Barn Swallow and others He was beaten slightly more than four lengths finishing fourtn to Barn Swallow The JcJroomstick Handicap at Belmont Saturday was the race that moved him among the leading threeyearolds It was a sprint at a mile and he beat the older Tick On Thursday War Glory and others With the experienced and capable Alfred Robertson astride the colt his chances of winning Saturdays rich feature should be greatly enhanced enhancedAlthough Although no definite word has been re ¬ ceived irom Chicago regarding William Sachenmaiers Plight and Indian Salute the formers easy mile and a quarter in 212 at Washington Park Monday should show that the Texas Derby winner is being carefully prepared for his engagement As it is only a short ship from the Homewood course the son of Busy American probably will entrain from there tonight tonightAnother Another eligible was added to the probable field when J W Parrish notified the Detroit management that he was considering ship ¬ ping New Deal here He was to receive his final preparation at Latonia this morning and the outcome of the work was to decide whether the son of Broadway Jones and Ethel Dear would be shipped here As a two yearold New Deal won the Thomas Curran Memorial Stakes and his second to Mata Hari in the Illinois Derby was a creditable performance performanceWhile While New Deal was added to the prob ¬ able field one of the doubtful starters was dropped from the list when F A Carreaud announced this morning that Time Supply would not fill his engagement The son of Time Maker has been under colors only once since the Preakness and that was a three quarters race here last Saturday Since then the colt has only galloped gallopedThat That the field will comprise a dozen was almost made a certainty this morning when DuvaT Headley announced that Thomasville would be under colors colorsThere There are now fifteen in the probable field but Law Suit Rock X and Indian Salute are very doubtful starters and there is no certainty that New Deal will be ship ¬ ped here hereWith With the exception of Mata Hari which was given an easy mile this morning other locally trained eligibles will receive their final preparations tomorrow Bien Fait winner of the Michigan Cup Handicap and the Corsicana Stable hope was sent a fast quarter as a prep for a longer trial to ¬ morrow morrowThe The daughter of Peter Hastings and War Woman is now doing famously and after her easy work this morning trainer Clyde Van Dusen announced that she would be a cer tain starter starterOne One of the features of the conditions for the Detroit Derby is the liberal offerings for horses finishing second third fourth and fifth Second money is 5000 third 3000 fourth 51500
