SPRINT RACES PREDOMINATE Six of Seven Contests at Fairmount Park for Sprinters Our Justice Defeats Fayette Prince by Head Headin in Thrilling Finish Who WhoWin Win Surprises SurprisesCOLLJNSVlLE COLLJNSVlLE 111 June 13 Six of the seven races decided at Fairmount Park were over sprinting distances today and the feature called the Alton Purse a claiming race over six furlongs in which five of the higher priced claiming horses on the grounds met resulted in one of the best fin ¬ ishes of the meet when Tracy Reno gave a great exhibition of horsemanship to get Mrs J Chesneys Our Justice home a head in front of Fayette Prince Altmark was a like distance behind Fayette Prince for second place with Grand Champion two lengths in the rear of Altmark Charming Sir was the only other starter starterFayette Fayette Prince beat his opponents away and opened up a two lengths lead on Charm ¬ ing Sir with the latter a like distance be ¬ fore Grand Champion going down the back stretch Fayette Prince continued to hold his two lengths advantage turning into the stretch with Grand Champion replacing Charming Sir in the runnerup position Altmark was fourth and Our Justice was still being outpaced Entering the straight ¬ away Our Justice began to make up some ground and reaching the eighth post was fourth having only Charming Sir beaten Coming with a terrific rush he passed Grand Champion and was catching Altmark which was racing second to Fayette Prince in the final stages stagesTwenty Twenty yards from the end Our Justice was within striking distance of the leaders and it seemed as though he was taking two strides to the others one and under power ¬ ful riding caught the leaders a stride from the end endThe The course dried out rapidly and with hard work on the part of track superinten ¬ dent Placide Frigerio fast footing prevailed for the seven races Overhead conditions were perfect and another large assemblage was on hand for the racing racingComing Coming with a rush in the stretch Uncle Less which races for T J Debord over ¬ hauled Best Man the favorite a sixteenth from the finish and got up to win a half length decision in the first race which was for threeyearolds and over the five and onehalf furlongs Beige was third thirdBeige Beige Uncle Lesa and Bob Up showed the way in the first quarter with Best Man lapped on them in fourth place Moving past the far turn Best Man went to the front with Beige second and Uncle Less dropping back three lengths behind the leaders In the straightaway Uncle Less began to move up with Best Man enjoying a lead of a length and a half G Courtney went to the outside of Best Man in the drive and under strong hand riding caught Best Man tiring in the final stages stagesEleven Eleven threeyearolds started in the sec ¬ ond race over five and a half furlongs and the winner was produced by E K Bryson when Kanal earned her first purse of the year Wind Song was second and Aquatis saved third thirdJ J W Frye rode the winner and got her off in the first flight Frye rated the daugh ¬ ter of Mirafel behind the fastmoving Mod ¬ ern Lash and when the latter tired entering the stretch Kanal went to the front with Wind Song lapped on her In the last six ¬ teenth Wind Song began to tire and the Bryson miss was winner by a length with Wind Song four lengths before Aquatis which saved third a nose in front of Mod ¬ ern Lash LashShift Shift C Lemons veteran son of Sweep made a show of his opponents in the third race when he was an easy winner over Col Cloister Draha and nine other of the older division over the six furlongs route routeThe The winner ably ridden by apprentice H Manifold outbroke the others went to the front under a strong hold continued to maintain his lead until reaching the stretch turn where he came away from his rivals winning by more than three lengths Col Cloister began faster than usual and close up throughout caught Draha tiring in the final strides to earn second place by a slight margin marginEight Eight started in the fourth race over six furlongs and J Oros Who Win was a sur ¬ prise winner when he came from far back to take a half length advantage over Aurica Third fell to Alamae which was a nose in front of Nanny D DAlamae Alamae had the most speed and opened up a two length lead going down the back stretch with Aurica and Vladimir heads apart and the winner in sixth place After traversing a half mile Aurica replaced Ala ¬ mae in the lead with the latter more than a length before Vladimir and Who Win mov ¬ ing up on the outside Entering the stretch Aurica stole a long lead with Vladimir Alamae and Who Win closely bunched In the drive Who Win was making up ground fast and when Aurica shortened her strides caught the leader in the last few strides and was going away
