CONEY ISLAND OPENS AUG. 31 CINCINNATI, Ohio, July 11.— Coney Island will open its meeting August 31 and close October 20, it was announced Wednesday by W. V. Dwyer, head of the association, which operates the Ohio track. In spiking rumors to the effect that there would be no racing at Coney Island this season, Dwyer said that the club had applied to the Ohio Racing Commission for dates two months ago, and that the forty-four day period as announced had been approved by the commission. Attractive sport Is promised by the management, which expects to offer stake races that will engage some of the best racers now performing in the Middle West.
