Stride a juvenile daughter of Display and Prattle II making her first start for J Gi Langs Buf ¬ faloowned Elmtree Stable was a surprise winner of the Hamtramck Stakes feature of the halfholiday program offered at the Fair Grounds this afternoon At the end of the five and a half furlongs race that was worth 2400 to the winner and which Fast Stride ran in the creditable time of 106 the Lang filly was two lengths before T C Gearys Ramrod which beat Curtis Kings highly regarded Phildia by an equal margin for second place placeNine Nine started and Phildia an evenmoney choice which outsprinted his field from the start and led to the final sixteenth was the victim of adverse racing luck when a stir ¬ rup strap broke in the last 100 yards and George Woolf was forced to ease up his mount mountBack Back of the placed trio followed St Moritz Merry Go Round Wise Bessa First Entry Glint and Red Rod in the named order orderThree Three stake winners namely Phildia Wise Bessa and First Entry were among the starters but Phildia was the only one that showed an effort that would rank him among the best of their age ageMaking Making his first start since he was in ¬ jured in the Hyde the way to the others with the winner and Ramrod next nextApproaching Approaching the stretch Fast Stride came through on the inside to move up on Phildia while Ramrod which was on the extreme outside was also making his move The leading trio appeared to be best of the others when reaching the final furlong with Phildia tiring gradually shortly afterwards Fast Stride forged to the front and when made good when Arthur Gaignard Jrs Come Seven was an easy winner of the second race at three quarters Emery was second with Black Diamond third Forced to work her way forward gradually among the field of eleven lowly platers the winner came to the in ¬ side for the drive and after disposing of Midson and Baby Bane in the final three sixteenths drew away to nearly a five length advantage at the end Emery closed with a rush to head Black Diamond for the second award the latter tiring after reach ¬ ing third position in the stretch and was under strong pressure in outlasting Thistle Dick The Hun which came in for strong support was far back throughout throughoutMiss Miss Purray the consistent daughter of Purchase which races for H H Cross Tranquility Farm Stable registered her fourth success of the meeting in accounting for the third race which engaged a field of six of the better grade performers from the claiming ranks Terrier a slight favorite over the winner was a length back of Miss Purray and two lengths before Ladykin at the close of the six furlongs furlongsWhile While Terrier was hustled into the lead soon after the start Miss Purray forced the pace under steadying restraint Entering the stretch Miss Purray went wide but F Fernandez who had previously scored with Come Seven straightened the Cross filly and she wore Terrier down in the final six ¬ teenth After the opening quarter where Respect had third position Ladykin was always the best of the others othersFernandez Fernandez rode his third winner and J Ores Annarita scored her third straight victory when she was ridden but in accbunt ing for the fifth race Incandescent was second with Burgoo third Cleverly ridden by the little Cuban An ¬ narita was saved when Aunt Flor and In ¬ candescent went out to show the way After reaching the stretch she wore Incan ¬ descent down but Fernandez kept her under pressure despite her twolength lead The leading trio shared favoritism
