NARRAGANSETT PARK READY Contractors Give Way to Racing RacingOfficials Officials Completing Details of ofOpening Opening Next Wednesday PAWTUCKET R I July 23 Out of thh whirling maelstrom of activity contractors are slipping away today as the official rac ¬ ing family is assembling for next Wednes ¬ days opening of Narragansett Park which will mark the return of horse racing to Rhode Island after three decades decadesStarter Starter Harry Mbrrissey senior steward Sam Nuckols steward Ben Cook and entry clerk Ben Holmes today were busy prepar ¬ ing for their respective jobs Racing secre ¬ tary Jack Campbell will fly from Arlington Park tonight and tomorrow every official will be on the ground Pat Horgan chief assistant to Campbell came from Arlington today He told Walter OHara Ive heard more talk in the West about Narragansett Park than I have ever heard about a race track Campbell has been overwhelmed by requests from horsemen who wish to race at Narragansett and Ben Holmes tells me he has the same experience here I can see Campbell will have a big job on his hands sorting the applications applicationsWe We heard at Arlington Park about the stabling arrangements the railroad loading facilities and the racing strip and those things influence horsemen greatly The final clincher was the first condition book They saw 5000 and 7500 added stakes and han ¬ dicaps listed to be run on the same days with races of 1200 and 1000 That con ¬ vinced everybody that Narragansett Park Is out to attract the highest type of horses trainers and owners ownersHorgan Horgan left tonight for Saratoga Springs to consult owners of stake horses He will return Tuesday when secretary Campbell will announce some of the stake entries
