HURDLER WHICH LOVES MILK The Great Northern N Z Steeplechase winner Valpeen is owned by a dairy farmer Mr G Campbell who trains the horse him ¬ self It was interesting to find that this sportsman swapped another horse he had for the unnamed Spalpeen mare plus fl and he then had her mated to Valkyrian That is how Valpeen came into being Mr Campbell used to ride this horse about when bringing in the cows and at the same time the future Great Northern winner developed an intense passion for milk milkSubsequently Subsequently Mr Campbell awoke to the fact that Valpeen had speed and so with ¬ out indulging in any wild dream of the fu ¬ ture he took him across a few miles of country to the handiest race course From that time onward Valpeen was destined to take to the turf as a career but he did not let that interfere with his milk diet Copey who won the Great Northern Steeplechase two years ago and was third this time in ¬ dulges in a bottle of stout regularly but on this occasion the nonintoxicant won out
