WESTON SHOWS GOOD TRIAL Jouett Shouses Derby Candidate Works Three-Quarters in 1:18 in Holding Mud and Cold Mist. LOUISVILLE,. Ky., April 12. Working under as disagreeable track and weather conditions as any Kentucky Derby candidate ever was asked to face at Churchill Downs within three weeks of the race, Jouett Shouses Weston came through with another smart private trial at six furlongs through deep, holding mud and a cold mist at that course here today. Working with the crack four-year-old filly Fiji, the Shouse hopeful covered the distance in" 1:18, breezing, following which both he and his companion "jogged" out the mile in 1:48. On even terms throughout, they turned the opening quarter in :24 and were timed in :50 for the half. Trainer Jack Young had a stable boy up on the Derby colt, while jockey Gilbert Elston was astride the older filly, which he guided to several important stakes victories last year. Fiji is scheduled to make her four-year-old bow in the Clark Handicap, first day feature of the Downs meeting, which gets under way Saturday, April 27. The Derby is to be run a week later. The Derby favorite, Chance Sun, owned by Joseph E. Widener, had a three furlongs "pipe-opener" in preparation for a longer workout tomorrow. Time for the short trial was :39, the first furlong being in :12. Other of the Derby aspirants, including Mrs. R. B. Fairbanks Bluebeard; J. J. Flan-igans Chanceview; W. E. Hupps Bobbys Son; J. W. Parrishs Jawapa, and Meehan Brothers Carroll Day galloped about two miles each. Advices to the effect that the Saddle Spur Stable and the horses of J. B. Partridge are to leave California for Louisville tomorrow were received at the local track today.
