1 ARLINGTON DOWNS NOTES s Furfiber, Col. W. A. Jones Texas Derby eligible, had another useful preparation for that nine furlongs trip when he was sent a handy mile over the Arlington Downs inside track Friday morning in 1:40and. Under a snug hold for three-quarters and only lightly roused in the last quarter, the son of Carlaris stepped the half mile in :49 and the three-quarters in 1:14. Jockey L. Haas and J. H. Gordon had their first mounts of the meeting Friday afternoon. Dr. J. T. Traylor, who represented the Texas Racing Commission as veterinarian at Epsom Downs, arrived from his home at Harlingen, Texas, and will remain for the rest of the meeting. L. Dronet, who announced his retirement from the saddle during the New Orleans season, arrived from his home at Kaplan, La., and is galloping horses for Johnny Theall. If he can get down to weight, Dronet plans to resume riding at Fair Park. Trainer A. Frost is sending the three horses he has here to Churchill Downs at the close of this meeting. Six two-year-olds and four older performers now in training at Cumberland Park will join the stable at Churchill Downs. E. E. Minor, traffic agent for the Railway Express Company, is an arrival. He has thirty-two carloads booked for shipment .from here at the close of this meeting. Trav Daniel, resident manager of Arlington Downs, had several of his aides check the license plates of the automobiles parked in the spacious area Wednesday, and the list revealed license plates from nearly every state in the country. California led with forty-one cars, and Oklahoma was next with thirty-two. Thirty automobiles arrived from Louisiana, and twenty-four were from Georgia. In all there were 271 cars with out-of-the-state licenses. Far away Minnesota, New Mexico, Tennessee, "Wisconsin, Wyoming and Rhode Island were represented.. Jockey H. Hughes, who received a slight injury to his left arm when tossed from Glittering when she stumbled at the start of the sixth race Thursday, cancelled his engagement Friday. Magnificent weather is anticipated and clubhouse reservations are on hand from social, business and civic leaders all over the state. Saturdays observance of Centennial Day at Arlington Downs promises to develop into one of the gala days of the meeting sponsored by the Texas Jockey Club. The Three Ds Handicap, attracting a pretentious group of aristocratic racers to help the card, and each race on the program, will.be dedicated to the Texas Centennial, officials from which view some of the events from the stewards stand as guests of E. Paul and Guy L. Waggoner. The Texas Jockey Clubs silver trophy will be presented to the owner of the horse winning the Three Ds Handicap by Mrs. W. T. Waggoner II., and Mrs. A. B. Wharton, Jr., will present the floral trophy
