SAN ANTONIO, Texas, April 12. With the start of the spring racing season at Alamo Downs, April 25 through May 18, now less than three weeks in the offing, 200 horses are stabled on the local grounds, with morning workouts once more making the air electric with sound. From easy gallops, these conditioning exercises have been grad ually lengthened to short, fast-dashes over a sprint route. Longer workouts will be in order hereafter, however, and by inaugural afternoon the equine colony will be in the proverbial pink. Many good racers will occupy every stall on the track, for the San Antonio course will be the only mile track in operation in Texas at the time. The resurfaced track, providing a deep, safe cushion, -will also be conducive to more consistent racing, and arriving horsmen are enthusiastic over the track.
