BLACK MINNIE went to the front at once and, opening up a good lead on the back stretch, gamely withstood the stretch challenge .of ATHOL and won narrowly in a drive. ATHOL,- outrun by the winner in the early stages, moved up strongly to challenge after entering the stretch and, going gamely to the end, barely missed. NERISSA was outpaced in the early part, but came strongly to save much ground around the stretch turn and was going well at the finish. DURANGO closed some ground. JEANNETTE K. tired. Won driving; second and third the same. - IJLY MAY was rated close to the pace for the first half mile, moved up strongly to catch DISTRIBUTE on the stretch turn, but was headed by JAZZ BAND in the early running, then continued gamely to catch the latter nearing the end and won in a drive. JAZZ BAND displayed his usual early speed and, holding on with more courage than usual, raced well to the finish. WAR gained ground gradually and was in rather!, close quarters while making his. run in the stretch. WOULD DARE was badly outrun in the early part, but was going well at the finish. BEDO was also going fairly well at the end. DISTRIBUTE tired badly after racing three-quarters. WINSLOW also tired. Overweight Jazz Band, 2 pounds. FRUMPER, rated in the early part, came fast when let down to take command in the stretch and drew out to win easily. ELECTRIC GAFF, badly ridden, was in close quarters around the first turn and was shut off, was again blocked while making a foolish attempt to get through a narrow opening on the far turn and pulled up, then came to the outside, but was taken to the rail in the stretch and again blocked and could not get up. EIGHTH POLE, as usual, was outrun early, but finished fast. NORTHCUTT was never dangerous. CHICA and RUFLE were used upsetting the early pace and tired badly
