BAY MEADOWS NOTES ! s Trainer Wayne Lewis announced Saturday that the extensive stable of Wood F. Axton, who died recently after a prolonged illness, will be shipped to the Chicago sector at the conclusion of Bay Meadows racing. It is possible that the star of the Axton stable, Frank Ormont, will appear once more before Bay region fans before they head the Axton shipment to Illinois. Lewis will have the stable strengthened in Chicago by replacements from the Axton farm at Skylight, Ky. I The Puett starting gate, in use at Bay Meadows since last fall, will be employed at Tanforan when racing begins at the John W. Marchbank track next Saturday afternoon. The Puett machine will be in operation at . every starting point but the six furlong chute, where the Bahr gate will be set until such a time as permanent starting stalls are constructed. Jockey "Red" Joergens, under contract to Ted Horning, trainer of the Percy M. Pike stable, suffered a broken pelvis bone Saturday morning when a horse he was exercising bolted and unseated him. Joergens was rushed to the Mills Hospital in San Mateo. Condition books for the first seven days of racing at Tanforan have been released. The majority of purses are of 00 and 00 value, while the features for opening week are the ,500 Tanforan Inaugural, to be run opening day, April 20, the Bay Bridge Handicap of ,000 value to be decided April 24 and the ,000 Haggin Handicap to be run April 27. Webb Everett, who will serve as racing secretary at the summer meeting at Long-acres, announced that the Seattle track would open June 14. Many horses will ship to Longacres following the Tanforan meeting.
