GENERAL LEJEUNE, slow to settle into his best stride, gained rapidly after leaving the back stretch, circled his field to reach the leaders, opened up a winning lead during the stretch run and had something in reserve at the end. ONEILL worked his way up on the outside and came with good energy during the closing drive. IDLEWILD raced forwardly and held on gamely when placed to punishment. LIEBCHEN was outrun early, but closed willingly in the lata stages. HOT GRIDDLE saved ground throughout and had no excuse. STAROGAN quit after a half mile. ACAUTAW, favoring the footing and sent into a brief early lead, raced PRINCE POMPEY and ZULU LAD into submission, came willingly after being momentarily displaced at the eighth post and outstayed WITAN when nearing the finish. WITAN followed close up on the outside early, moved up strongly to take a slight lead in the closing eighth, but could not resist the winner. SISOWEN improved her position steadily, but was held safe when the stretch drive came. PRINCE POMPEY was strongly handled from the beginning and had no excuse. HOGANS FOX could not reach a contending position. ALWINTOUR was outrun. ZULU LAD quit after a half mile. Scratched 98022Buck Langhorne, 108. Overweight Hogans Fox, 2 pounds. THIRD RACE 1-2 MILE. PARAGUAY TEA, showing good ability in the going, worked her way up on the outside, then, carried out during the closing stages, drew out rapidly after displacing PATSEY BEGONE. The latter went into a slight lead in the first three-eighths, shook off ARGOAN, but was no match for the winner during the closing eighth. SEABISCUIT began slowly, but came willingly in the final drive. SON OF TROY could not threaten when hard ridden. CLE was never a factor. PETER PEPPER raced well for the first quarter mile, then tired badly. ARGOAN showed good speed for three-eighths. ATHOLTON raced well early, but appears to disfavor the footing. BRIGHT LIGHT broke nicely and was sent into command under hard urging, shook off stiff contention from DISTRACT, saved ground to open up a winning lead when reaching the home stretch and had enough in reserve to stall off PARADE GIRL. The latter settled into her stride midway of the turn, circled her field and finished with a bold rush. DISTRACT raced strongly in the early stages and held on well in the closing drive. SOMEONE ELSE- showed a good effort. VICTORIOUS ANN had too much taken out of her trying to enter contention and tired in the final test. BETH BON could not menace. The latter, placed to pressure in the early running, responded gamely when placed to punishment, but could not. resist the winner during the closing drive. ST. MORITZ took command under punishment, had good speed while setting the pace, but could not stay when the real test came. DOGMATA was unable to better his position.
