CLASSIC ON JULY 20 Date for Running of Valuable Three-Year-Old Prize Announced. Schedule for Other Arlington Park Stake Features Also Revealed by President Otto Lehmann. Saturday, July 20, is the date selected for the seventh running of the Classic Stakes, Arlington Parks great three-year-old event, Otto Lehmann, president of the beautiful north side course, announced here Saturday. He also made public dates for the other Arlington features, whose aggregated value in added money totals 5,000, The full schedule follows: July 4 Stars and Stripes Handicap, 0,000 added, mile and a furlong. July 6 Hyde Park Stakes, ,000 added, five and one-half furlongs. July 13 Arlington Lassie Stakes, 0,000 added, six furlongs. July 20 Classic Stakes, 0,000 added, mile and a quarter. July 27 Arlington HandTcap, 0,000 added, mile and a quarter.. August 2 Arlington Futurity, 0,000 added. The Classic, which since its inception has played an important part in deciding the American championship for three-year-olds, is in a strategic position as to its date to do likewise this season, Mr. Lehmann ponted out, because it comes at the end of a long line of prominent races in this division and -should bring together the winners and contenders of all of them. Mr. Lehmann added that nomination blanks to six Arlington Park Stakes had been mailed out to owners arid trainers all over the country. Closing date for these features has been set for June 1, a month before the thirty-day meeting at the north side course is to begin. Horsemen are expected to be pleased at the arrangement of the Arlington stakes, the jockey club president said, because each event, with the exception of the Stars and Stripes Handicap, annual Fourth of July feature, is to be staged a week later than was the case last year. As a consequence, the trainers will have just that much more time for the preparation of their horses, particularly the two-year-olds. The later date for both the Arlington Lassie Stakes and Arlington Futurity should have the effect of increasing the fields and improving their quality, Mr. Lehmann added, because horsemen naturally are tempted to take more time with the development of their more promising two-year-old prospects. Nominations to these two races closed last fall and the eligibility lists include representations from all the major stables.
