DETROIT STAKE BLANKS Distributed Among Arlington Downs Horsemen Roman Soldier Is Named for Detroit Derby. ARLINGTON, Texas, April 13 The stake blanks of the Detroit Racing Association, which arrived this week and were distributed among horsemen racing here, proved a great stimulus to the already active interest of the horsemen and followers of racing in the Detroit meeting, which opens May 23. Phil Reuter had the distinction of making the first entry in the Detroit Derby, following the precedent of having made the first entry in the same race last year. Those who remember Plights sensational stretch run to finish second to the mighty Cavalcade in the Detroit Derby of last year, will sit up and take notice of the entry of Roman Soldier for this years event. If confidence goes for anything, the Detroit Derby is all over but the shouting, as Reuter thinks he has a great horse, and expects not only to take the Texas Derby here on April 20, but also the Kentucky Derby and the Detroit Derby, a rather ambitious program for a horse that only lately moved up out of the claiming class. However, those who saw Roman Soldiers impressive win here in his only start are ready to believe that if the colt continues in his present form he will be in somebodys way in the big three-year-old classics of the year. Bob McGarvey is also very high on Whis-kolo, which finished second in the Santa Anita Derby, and which he claims the colt should have won without any question. He intends to enter him in the Detroit Derby with probably one or two others in his stable and believes that the horse that beats him will walk into the winners charmed circle. It is probable that six or seven entries will be assured from Arlington Downs alone for the Detroit feature.
