SOPHIST, never far away, made a strong move around the stretch turn to easily pass GOLD CLASP in. the run home and won in hand. GOLD CLASP displayed the most early speed and, while no match for the winner, held on fairly well. FRITTER CIRCLE, under restraint in the early part, raced wide while making his move. GERTIE, close to the pace from the start, moved around the outside to take command entering the stretch and drew out easily in the last eighth. HOME LOAN was badly outrun for a quarter, then gained steadily to finish fast. STRAIT JACKET was carried wide in the stretch, but was racing strongly at the end. BUBBLING MATE had early speed, but was caught between BYE LO and the winner on the stretch turn and forced back. SHINING JEWEL could not keep up. CHIEF ALMGREN probably needed the race. BLACK FOREST took a good lead around the first turn and was then taken under restraint until challenged by SWEET MAN, but moved away when ready to open up a long lead rounding the far turn and was never in danger thereafter, winning easily. NORTHGALIS raced steadily all the way and was going gamely at the finish. BEESON, outrun early, closed ground in the stretch. SWEET MAN had early speed, but tired in the run home. PERTINACIOUS, avoiding interference in the early stages, came fast after going half the distance to catch MEMPHIS LASS in the stretch and drew out to an easy win. JOE SAM was outrun to the last quarter, then moved up strongly to close with at rush. MEMPHIS LASS showed good speed in setting the pace and was tiring when shut off by PERTINACIOUS at midstretch. SURTEES was outrun early, came strongly after leaving the back stretch, but went lame in the last eighth and pulled up limping badly. OLD TUCK tired after racing to a contending position on thefar turn. SUN THORN tired after showing some earlv sneed 1 " SEVEN UP refused to break.
