BOWIE DISTRIBUTES 8,325 Maryland Meeting Fairly Success- fuTDespite Handicap in Weather. i Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt Leading Money-Winning Owner Purple Knight Heads Prize-Winning Horses. Eowies ten-day meeting was not favored by weather, but the session was considered a success despite the handicaps. The Southern Maryland Association distributed a daily average of ,832.50 for a total prize distribution of 8,325. The meeting began on April 1 and ended April 11, seventy races being decided. Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts horses were up to their old tricks and earned top place among the money winners for their owner, who carried off 2,785 in stakes and purses. The Vr-nderbilt horses won nine races, two of them stakes. Purple Knight was the leading money-winning horse, with ,975, all of it coming from his victory in the Southern Maryland Handicap on the closing day of the meeting. Bright Light scored a sensational victory in the Inaugural Handicap and finished second to Purple Knight in money winnings. H. Richards piloted eight winners for jockey honors, while "Bud" Stotler, the Vanderbilt trainer, headed his division, with nine winners.
