METAURUS, well handled and never far back, was forced to lose ground when improving his position, responded fast after approaching the stretch, drove to the front nearing the final eighth, tired in the last stages, but held BACK FENCE safe. The latter, a strong factor from the start, was pinched back when offering a strong bid in the stretch, but came fast when rlear. POLYPHOTE, never far back and under good handling, held on well. AS ALWAYS made up ground. BAL ELE had no mishaps. ANTE BELLUM, used up in the pare, tired in the drive. FLIGHT OF GOLD showed nothing. Scratched-21744 Playaway, 110; 24844 Cold South, 105. JEAN LEE, well up from the start, was shuffled back entering the stretch, but came again when clear. CHERAW, never far back, tired after improving his position. FREEZE sprinted into a lone lead early, was put to good urging when tiring, gave way to the winner and tired fast in the last eighth. MINTHERA, strong factor from the start, held on well. QUASIMODO, much the best and well up from the start, was shuffled back at the far turn, responded fast when clear, wore SATRAPAL down in the last sixteenth and won drawing away. The latter, suddenly improved and under strong urging from the start, saved ground when reaching the lead, drew clear after five-sixteenths, was put to sjtrong urging when challenged and tired near the end. BACK LOG, away slowly, moved up with a rush on the outside but tired in the last stages. MOLLY GREENOCK, badly ridden and permitted to lose ground throughout, finished under her own courage.
