SILAS B. MASON PASSES ON Death Takes Prominent Kentucky Owner and Breeder Operated Duntreath Farm. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 15 The people of the blue grass region were shocked this morning to hear of Silas B. Masons death last night at Grand Coulee Dam, Washington, fifteen hours after he had suffered a heart attack while at his desk in the office of the Silas B. Mason company, Grand Coulee Dam. At Mr. Masons offices in Lexington this morning it was stated that the body would be brought to Kentucky for burial and that interment probably would be at Frankfort, where Mr. Masons parents are buried, but that arrangements for the funeral have not been pefected. Silas B. Mason was fifty-seven years old, born in Orange County, Virginia, October 22, 1879, and after finishing at Washington and Lee and Princeton university, became identified with shipbuilding. In 1926 Mr. Mason began breeding thoroughbred horses at his Duntreath Farm on the Versailles Pike, near Lexington, which he had purchased in 1908. For the last ten years, as an individual and as a member of the Warm Stable and in conjunction with Mrs. Mason, in whose name a considerable number of important horses have raced and are now being raced, he was a prominent figure on the American turf. Victorian was his first outstanding horse and which he had the mistfortune to lose last year just when he was giving high promise to become a great sire. Mrs. Masons first horse of prominence was Head Play, which after a successful campaign, is now in the stud of Duntreath Farm at the age of six. He Did and Valevictorian, three-year-old sons of Victorian, are candidates for the Kentucky Derby. At this writing it is impossible to say what instructions Mrs. Mason will give as regards their future. Mr. Mason recently purchased a quarter interest from B. B. Jones in the. young stallion Quatre Bras II., a brother to Sir Galla-had IH. and Bull Dog. Something more than a year ago Mr. Mason put the ownership of his land and horse holdings into a corporation known as the Mason Foundation Company, Inc.
