TRANQUILLITY FARM STABLE Chicago-Owned String Under. Snyder Well-Balanced Outfit. Jockey Basil James One of Chief Assets of Cross Establishment Names of Juveniles. LOUISVILLE, JCy., April 29. One of the largest and most evenly-balanced thoroughbred establishments mustered here for a spring campaign at Churchill Downs is that of the Tranquillity Farm stable of H. H. Cross, wealthy Chicago oil magnate and sports figure. With the string which Ed. Snyder campaigned on the Pacific Coast, principally at Santa Anita, converged with the band which wintered at Churchill Downs, Tranquillity now has a string which numbers thirty-five. Of these thirteen are two-year-olds. The star attraction in the Cross group is not a horse, but the popular jockey, Basil James, who last year topped the riders of America in the number of successes. Heading the Tranquillity thoroughbred unit are three eligibles to the Kentucky Derby, which will have its renewal on May 8, namely Knights Plume, Teddy Green and The Runner. Each of the trio has had brisk speed trials, but awaiting future developments all must be regarded as dark horses. KNIGHTS PLUME BEST. Knights Plume obviously carries Snyders chief hopes. This son of Bright Knight was purchased from Audley Farms, through Clarence Buxton, for a reported price of 5,000. As a three-year-old he was winner of three races, and his trials to date have been of the highest order. Other older members of the Tranquillity Stable are Rock X., Capt Cal, Wild Turkey, Border Queen, Nonane, Eblis, Sea Ted, Lady Thatcher, Some Boy, Khar Fair, Alice G., Wha Hae, Pauidron, Miss Tranquil, Knights Gail, Grey Simon and Sir Steel. Names confirmed for the juveniles by the registrar of The Jockey Club and their breedings follow: Cross Sign, ch. c, by Ladkin Design, half brother to the deceased Challite. Formax, b. g, by For Fair Maximinah. Mr. Finn, ch. c, by St Henry Oceinra. Miss Amie, ch. f, by Ladkin Mon Amie Nane. Miss Chase, ch. f, by Ladkin Lady Chase. Goldkin, b. f, by Ladkin Champ DOr. Idle Lad, ch. g, by Ladkin Idle Saint. The Lad, ch. g, by Ladkin Cashla. Brush Lad, ch. g, by Ladkin Valencia. Virginia Boy, blk. c, by Ladkin Lady Capulet, half brother to Capt Cal. Pot DOr, b. f, by High Cloud Honey Pat Altaboy, ch. g, by Altawood Bright Fire, half sister to King Nadi. Margaret X., blk. f, by Trace Call Miss Hoptown. EXPERIMENT. The youngsters represent something of an experiment to Mr. Cross. Liking Ladkin blood lines, he leased him and bred him to his own mares. Of the juveniles, only Mr. Finn, Pot DOr and Margaret X. are not Tranquillity home-breds. Basil James is not the only James that Snyder has under his wing. His ace rider has reported he is bringing a cousin with him and believes he is a likely saddle prospect
