EPONINE, making her first start and suited by the going, rushed into command in the opening quarter, saved ground the final five-sixteenths and tired after slightly increasing her advantage in the stretch, but held CUCKOO safe. The latter displayed good speed from the start and held on well throughout under yigorous riding. SUCRE, taken back at the start and raced wide throughout, made up much ground in the opening quarter, then continued well to the final sixteenth before tiring badly. Won driving; second and third the same. ANN JONES, away well and nicely handled, followed the early pace under strong restraint, came around TOMYE when closing with determination under strong riding and was going away at the end. TOMYE, also cleverly rated, made the pace under snug restraint, was strongly shaken up soon after reaching the stretch nd held on well, but was not good enough. DULCIMER,- a factor from the start, tired in the drive, but outstayed MARVEL PLAY. The latter, on the inside throughout, had speed from the start, but faltered when the real test came. DOUBLE R. raced well. THE MAYOR began slowly, could not reach the leaders and tired in the final three-sixteenths. JOB PRINTER failed to threaten from a slow beginning. GAY TROUBADOUR started poorly. ZINGALI, forced to overcome early interference and racing wide as he improved his position, crossed to the inside after taking command with a rush and easily held sway through the final eighth. MANRICO, also overcoming interference, secured room between horses when moving up holding on well, out- finished WAR MINSTREL. The latter, away slowly and rushed to the leaders, lost much ground and, while no match for the winner, held on well, though failing to outstay MANRICO. THISTLE RED raced well. EPINIQUE showed speed under a hustling ride, but tired badly in the last quarter. BLUE MARQUE suffered cuts about the hind legs and quit badly. BEREA was in close quarters early. DRIFT ALONG swerved to the inside shortly after the start and appeared to stumble as her rider endeavored to straighten her, moved up with good speed when in stride and rapidly drew away from the others in the final eighth. ROY T., slightly eased before going an eighth, returned to good stride quickly when, securing ample room, but tired after reaching the last quarter. The latter made a good pace under clever rating, saved ground throughout, stood pressure gamely to the final three-sixteenths, but failed to hold the winner, though holding on with good courage. BROOKLYN began to improve his position after a half mile, swerved out badly in. the stretch and, closing with determination, would have been second in another stride. OLD NASSAU" had no mishaps. LEE WEE, hard ridden to take command on the inside leaving the back stretch, was given a breathing spell around the turn while saving ground, then failed to respond to hard riding and tired after being challenged. GEO. GABLE, under mild restraint early, moved up gradually on the outside and was steadily getting to LEE WEE. EPITOME showed an even effort. DESGAI lacked speed. TRUE CHARM, rated along smoothly in near pursuit of the leader, was unable to advance when called upon on the second turn and was tiring at the end. BUTTER BEANS moved up fast after the opening quarter, was taken in hand leaving the back stretch and gained slowly under strong urging in the final quarter.
