! BIDWILL GOES EAST FOR j PR0-F00TBALL MEETING j ...... 4 Charles W. Bidwill, owner of the Chicago Cardinals and the Hawthorne racetrack, among other sporting ventures, left Chicago Thursday evening for New York to attend the annual meeting of the National Professional Football League. Having changed coaches at the end of the 1938 season, a disappointing year in which the Cardinals, potentially one of the strongest teams in the league with a wealth of material, failed to play to expectations, Bid-will is going to New York with the fixed j intention of bolstering up the center of his line through the draft. His first objective will be to obtain the playing services of Ki Aldrich, center of the unbeaten Texas Christian eleven. Bidwill must toss a coin with the owners of the Pittsburgh Pirates team for first choice in the draft. However, it is unlikely that even should he fail to win the toss, Pittsburgh would seek Aldrichs services. They have been well-fortified in the center position, which would leave Bidwill free to make the claim for the T. C. U. player. Ernie Nevers, one of the greatest fullbacks ever to wear cleats, is the new Cardinal coach and has recommended a number of changes which owner Bidwill will carry out if possible.
