REJOICE IN MILTONS RETURN Hundreds of Cuban Friends Welcome General Manager Back. I Veteran Starter Associated With the Island Sport Over Period of Twenty-Eight Years. HAVANA, Cuba, Dec. 8. It was like old home week last week-end at Marianao. The cause of the celebration was the return of James F. Milton to his first turf love, the magnificent Oriental Park race track, after an absence of five years. Hundreds of Cuban friends greeted the veteran official both at the steamship pier and track proper, and the handshaking continued most of the time he was free. Milton, who has been contracted by Albert Levey, president of the Havana American Racing Association to serve as general manager during the fifty-two days of racing at the Marianao plant beginning January 12, was as excited about coming back here as a child with a new toy. EXPECT BIG SHIPMENT. After a conference with Levey, Milton announced that 105 horses will be stabled in the next few days. More than 300 will be in the barns by December 20. He expects to stay in Havana a few days and then go back to Baltimore and Charles Town to dig up some more good thoroughbred talent. Milton has been part and parcel of Cuban racing over a stretch of twenty-eight years. Before the late H. D. "Curley" Brown built Oriental Park Milton started horses at the old Almandares track, near here. He was assistant to Brown and then starter for years. In his last year here 1933 he was general manager for the Kaelker brothers. "Gosh, Im glad to be back with my old friends," declared Milton. "I can assure Cuban turfites that we are going to have a race meeting second to none this winter. Well have plenty of horses and good ones, too. Itll be like old times remember, 1921, 1922 and 1923? Well, just like those lush years. , I "I am happy to be associated with Mr. I Levey. He is spending a fortune whipping both the track, the stands and casino into shape, with some Cuban atmosphere thrown in for good measure. He should be rewarded with record attendances."
