DISTANCE PLATERS ENGAGED Interesting Program Scheduled for Fair Grounds This Afternoon Winners Attempting to Repeat. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 8 A pair of distance races engaging middle grade selling platers will share the spotlight on Fridays program here at the Fair Grounds. The fifth event is one of them and it is to be decided over a .mile and seventy yards, while the other is the sixth, a contest of a mile and a sixteenth. The sixth race promises to be a particularly interesting affair, for among the nine which are scheduled to take part in it five already have graced the winners circle since the local season got under way. Those which will be out trying for their second victories of the season arc Prince Sador, Double R., Gay May, Woodlander and Unparalled, all: of them well suited to the distance. While ! the others which round out the field have j been unable to earn brackets here yet this winter they have shown on one occasion or another that they are well placed in tomorrows engagement Woodlander seemed to have struck his best stride on Wednesday when he scored his first victory since 1936 and he may come in for stanch support tomorrow. The fifth race drew ten contestants and three of these have already won here this winter. Those which have finished in front are Fire Advance, Pay Rack and Powers Gouraud, while among those completing the field are Watercure, Happy Helen, Miss Firefly and Alpenglow. Still another race of merit is the opener, a sprint of six furlongs, in which Ona Boy and Miss Apprehend will be out for their second triumphs since the opening of the meeting. Good Omen, Black Rhapsody, Sadie F. and Par-Queen are some of the others in the field of eleven.
