NEW YEAR HANDICAP WORKS Main Man, Gosum, Ligaroti, Clingen-daal and Count Eleven in Santa Anita Trial Gallops ARCADIA, Calif., Dec. 29. Main Man, Louis B. Mayers chief candidate for honors in the New Year Handicap turned in a fine workout at Santa Anita Thursday morning. The winner of Bay Meadows Worlds Fair Handicap went around the Arcadia oval in 1:40 for the best tryout of the morning. Nelson A. Howards Gosum travelled one and one-eighth miles Thursday morning. His time was 1:55 which is neither good, nor bad as time goes but was pleasing to his trainer. Ligaroti, the favorite for the New Year Handicap, also had his trial Wednesday. With ample weight aboard he sped seven furlongs in 1:27. Ligaroti is being quoted at about 8 to 5 by the boys on the corner. Other horses deemed not quite a.s important by the regular race followers turned In good efforts. For instance Clingendaal, an old Santa Anita favorite worked five furlongs in 1:01, Count Eleven went five furlongs in 1:00, Time Alone, crack two-year-old, travelled three-quarters in 1:14 and the old plodding Redneck went a mile and a quarter in 2:12.
