It - ! FAIR GROUNDS TURF NOTES I . A M. J. Reed, owner of a modest stable of horses quartered at the Fair Grounds in charge of Rollie Bridwell, arrived from his home in Rockford, HI., accompanied by Mrs. Reed. . They will remain in New Orleans until after the turn of the new year. Nominations for the 1941 Belmont Futurity close on Jan. 3, 1939, and racing secretary Richard A. Leigh has blanks from the Westchester Racing Association to pass out to horsemen at the Fair Grounds. W. L.Dowling, who had his horses stabled ; outside the grounds here since the start of the Louisiana Jockey Clubs meeting, transferred the trio to Jefferson Park. They are Strolling Home, Gold Color and Carlade. The suspension of jockey Bobby Tilden, which was imposed by the Santa Anita stewards during last winter, expires on Dec. 31, 1938, and the veteran plans to resume riding shortly after the advent of 1939. Stabling room was granted C. G. Allen at the Fair Grounds for the two horses he is training for Mrs. F. ;M. Hill, and they were brought over this morning from Jefferson Park. The horses are Royal Flight and Vitox. The nine-year-old mare, The Nile, is back in training at the Louisiana Jockey Clubs track under the supervision of Ike Sevbold. The Nile has been away from the races for more than a year, having been turned out at a farm in Texas. Racing secretary R. A. Leigh, Sr., has started work on the draft of the fourth issue of the Louisiana Jockey Clubs condition book, the current issue expiring with racing of next Wednesday, January 4. Otis Clelland is awaiting the names for the five home-bred yearlings owned by Mrs. R. J. Murphy, Evansville, Ind., patron, and expects to receive the confirmations within the next few days. George B. Barrett, prominently known chief of mutuel departments at several tracks, is coming to New Orleans from his home in Louisville for the Sugar Bowl football game and, while here, is expected to visit the Fair Grounds. En route south he will stop at Baton Rouge for the Louisville Manual High School and New Britain, Conn., high school gridiron contest. Barrett is well known in Louisiana, having supervised the mutuels at the Shreveport Fair Grounds last fall.
