t SANTA ANITA TURF NOTES f 4 e Harry Silbert, who came on from New York to book the engagements of jockey Sammy Renick, has also been appointed agent for the W. L. Ranch stable. Gay Minetta, a full sister to Maj. A. C. Taylors Minulus, is in foal to Chance Sun and was sent to the ranch of Ted Horning at Concord, Calif. The mare is the property of William E. Boeing. Another sale was consummated when L. "Sport" Haymaker, representing I. Romm, sold to Joe Wood the five-year-old Anhela-tion. Terms of the transaction were private. Jockey Videl Villalobo, Cuban reinsman, is under call, to the stable of I. Romm. The I youngster can scale as low as 100 pounds j and is reported to be a capable rider. . I Among the recent arrivals at the Arcadia course is trainer Fred Van Patten, who checked in with the horses Don Grafton, Closing Time and Grayback, which he trains for himself. In the same consignment E. Kuenzli had Reproach and Son of Day. Kuenzli also conditions his own. Van Patten has taken a call on the promising apprentice Otto Grohs. Starter Eddie Thomas is a busy man these days. There were no less than fifteen different groups in his schooling classes this morning. Thomas is one starter who insists on the proper education of the performers, which accounts for the many quick starts he effects. Thomas established somewhat of a record at Longacres, when he had five consecutive starts in which the horses were off at once. "Thats one for Ripley," considering the horses have to commence out of a ! stall gate. The schooling hours are held from 7 a. m. to 8:30. A "Sarge" Swenke is back for another season at Santa Anita with the horses of A. R. Born, prominent Chicago business man. As is the "Sarges" usual winter procedure, he turned out several of his performers before leaving Tanforan and only brought five head j here to carry the Born silks. They are: Night J Raven, Whatagal, Atta Bunny, Peter F. and Silver Sarah. The horses which will be rested until spring are Carbon Copy, Florence B. F., The Tribesman, Glad Wings, Shasta Lark and two California-bred yearlings, which were purchased recently. The entry blanks for the Belmont Futurity, which have been here several days and distributed among the horsemen, are to be returned before Tuesday, January 3, on which date this rich stake closes.
