1 TROPICAL PARK TURF NOTES 8 : : g Jockey E. Delpino, who made his riding debut at Agawam Park several years ago and is now under contract to George Phillips, accepted his first mount of the present meeting when he rode Maebeau in the fourth j race Wednesday. Delpino gained his early I education riding under the wing of former jockey J. D. Mooney. The Glen Riddle horses are expected to : arrive from the farm in Berlin, Md., at a I later date to bring the stable consignment to full quota. Word was received from the Havana American Racing Association, operating Oriental Park in Havana, Cuba, that Leo Echle, on the mutuel staff of the Gables Racing I Association, has been appointed to serve as mutuel manager during the sixty-day meet-ing at Marianao. Echle, who has been employed at most of the leading tracks in the I United States in various departments, is well I known throughout the country and will leave for the island on January 7. At the close of the meeting he will return to Miami for the second session of the Gables Racing Association. In conjunction with the meeting at Oriental Park, according to Mr. Echle, a foreign book will be operated to take in all of the other winter tracks, including Hialeah Park. All positions for employment in the mutuel department have been filled. Jockeys Charles Eye and Eddie Arcaro are brewing a match race to decide supremacy at ice-skating. Both claim championship ability on the blades and they are expected to battle for supremacy shortly at the ice palace in Coral Gables. When jockey George Witmer rode Toni to victory for, Clyde Ponce in the seventh race at Tropical Park Wednesday it marked the lads fortieth winner and ended his career as an apprentice rider. Witmer is connected with the C. Ponce stable and was very successful on the small tracks of Maryland during the summer months. Jockey Hosea Gonzales arrived from the King Ranch Farm in Texas and reported to Mary Hirsch, who is racing a division of the I stable here. Robert S. Shelley, who will serve as racing secretary for the Havana American Racing Association, wishes to curb a circulated report that all accommodations at Havana have been taken. "There is still room for many more horses at the Island track," stated Mr. Shelley. John D. Hertz made his first visit of the season to Tropical Park on Thursday.
