WAR ADMIRAL DUE ON JAN. 5 Riddle Star to Arrive at Hialeah Soon After New Year. Will Race Throughout Season in Effort to Surpass Sun Beau as Worlds Leading Money Winner. MIAMI, Fla., Dec. 29. Samuel D. Riddles War Admiral, winner of the last Widener Challenge Cup, will arrive at Hialeah on Thursday, January 5, according to latest word received by Miami Jockey Club officials. War Admiral is now resting on the Riddle farm at Berlin, on the eastern shore of Maryland. The famed son of Man o War made his last appearance of the year in the 0,000 Rhode Island Handicap at Narragansett, a stake which he won with considerable ease. With the announcement of owner Riddle that War Admiral would not be retired after his engagement in the 0,000 added Widener on March 4, as was originally planned, the four-year-old brown colt has a chance to gain a foremost position with the worlds ranking money winners of all time. War Admiral now is in eighth place on the American list and eleventh among the world leaders. To date War Admiral has earned 72,140. Sun Beaus record of 76,744 tops all. Another victory in the Widener would roll War Admirals score up to approximately 22,140, or 4,604 behind Sun Beau. Considering the rich stakes for which he will be nominated in 1939, War Admiral might easily pass this sum. MARVELOUS RECORD. Sun Beau raced five full seasons to gain his position. War Admiral has performed only three semesters thus far. A composite record of War Admirals racing days reads: Twenty-five starts, twenty firsts, three seconds, one third, one unplaced; 72,140 earned. These figures truly present a marvelous picture of thoroughbred consistency. Ac- tually War Admiral never has been out of the money, for in the only time he was unplaced he earned ,500 for finishing fourth. This was in the 0,000 added Massachusetts Handicap at Suffolk Downs last June when he carried 130 pounds. All other starters, including Menow, the winner, were weighted Continued on fourteenth page. The Riddle thoroughbreds will occupy the same stalls that were allotted to them last year.
