I FAST SANTA ANITA WORK I ARCADIA, Calif., Dec. 30. Only 4wo of the eleven overnight candidates for the California Breeders Championship Stakes, tomorrows inaugural feature, were asked for speed this morning, Louis A. Almgrens . Smoky Snyder being stepped three furlongs in :34, driving, and Norman W. Churchs Toro Play going an easy half mile in :52. As ideal conditions prevailed during the training hours, however, several hundred horses were sent through speed trials on the mile main course and half mile training track. They included several of the top-notchers here, of which Alfred Gwynne Van-derbilts Airflamc and Heelf ly went five furlongs together in :59 after doing the half mile in :46. Best speed of the morning was shown by the Millsdale Stables Sir Raleigh, which reeled off a half mile in :45, the quarter in :22 and three furlongs in :33. Thomas D. Taggarts Marica breezed six furlongs in 1:15, A. C. T. Stock Farms Indian Broom a mile in 1:41 and Mrs. B. Franzheims Xalapa Clown three-eighths in :37.
