JOHNNY TORRIO PLEADS GUILTY NEW YORK, N. Y., April 10 In a startling reversal, Johnny Torrio, kingpin of the prohibition bootleg racket, pleaded guilty to federal tax evasion charges today. A similar plea was turned in by his brother-in-law, William Slockbower. The rapid procession of plea changers was joined immediately by James LaPenna. Possible penalties. range as high as twelve years in jail and fines of 0,000 each. Torrio had been on trial for ten days on the charge of defrauding the government of 6,000 in the years 1933, 1934 and 1935,
