brought together a more valuable field of horses at Lincoln Fields today tfie Lexbrook Stables Gourmet scored a popular victory at the American Turf Association course when he accounted for the Monee Claiming Purse a race which was fashioned for platers over the more exacting distance of a mile and a furlong The Pot au Feu gelding was the second public choice to justify his support as he finished in front of A J Browns Maurice K with a margin of victory which didnt clearly indicate how hotly the decision was contested through the stretch The Chicagoowned campaigner was making his second start at this still young meeting and was picking up his third purse of the year as he stepped off the dis ¬ tance in 155 155After After setting the pace all the way until overpowered by the winner in the final drive to the wire Maurice K was losing ground so rapidly that he was two and onehalf lengths back of the Lexbrook representative and only a nose in advance of Snider Eck lands Edgeco Mrs Thelma fashion only to drop back after the field had reached the turn Valdina Melia offered little serious contention and Briar Rose found the lead ¬ ers pace in the stretch much too fast after chasing Superose for three of the five furlongs
