Five Big Cities Tomorrow Important Fixtures to Be Renewed Crete Handicap at Lincoln Fields Haggin Features CaliforniaBreds The racing map enlarges with Chicago Los Angeles and Detroit along with New York and Boston staging important events on the weekend cards At beautiful Lincoln Fields in the Chicago area they will stage the Crete Handicap at six furlongs for threeyearolds and older horses One of the oldest and most important stakes run annually at the inviting course the Crete drew fortythree nominations with Potranco winner on the opening days card and Joe Schenck assigned the top weight of 120 pounds Other eligibles include Technician Unerring Vino Puro Prairie Dog Book Plate Smacked and many others The Lincoln Fields meeting will run until June 21 and during that time will stage the Francis S Peabody Memorial Handi ¬ cap Steger Handicap La Salle Handicap and the Lincoln Handicap all of these events having 5000 in added money This meeting is a forerunner to that at Arlington Park which will run from June 23 to July 31 and in which such events as the Stars and Stripes Handicap Arlington Futurity and the Classic Stakes with 40000 added will be featured on a fine stake program The Classic at one and onequarter miles exclusively for threeyearolds will be staged on July 26 and will likely give Chicago fans the opportunity of seeing Whirlaway in action At Suffolk Downs tomorrow the feature event of the day will be the 5000 added Governors Handicap at one mile for threeyearolds and older horses This event second in the Suffolk series of fourteen stakes staged during the sixtyday meeting now in progress has drawn the entries of some of the fastest horses in the East Andy K lias been assigned the top weight of 126 pounds with Call to Colors next on the list with 122 pounds A goodsized field is looked for with Advocator Liberty Tranc Curious Coin Doubt Not Many Stings Air Brigade Master Henry and others eligible to start Many fine events are scheduled throughout June but the meeting will swing in high gear with the running of the 25000 added Yankee Handicap at one and three sixteenths miles for threeyearolds on July 4 and soar to the peak with the running of the 50000 added Massachusetts Handicap at one and oneeighth miles for threeyearolds and older horses on July 16 The Boston course has enjoyed a splendid meeting to date and will undoubtedly draw record throngjs on these days when two of the most important events on the New England turf will be contested The Massachusetts Handicap was won by War Admiral Seabiscuit Discovery and other fine horses of the past decade and from all indications this years renewal will draw one of the best fields in its history Todays 7500 added Peter Pan Handicap at Belmont will be followed on the weekend by the running of the Juvenile Stakes and the timehonored Metropolitan Handicap The former event will be run over the new juvenile course which will replace the Widener course permanently after the running of the Futurity in 1942 The Metropolitan at one mile closed with fiftytwo nominations and from all indi ¬ cations one of the finest fields of the Belmont season should result Record after record in the mutuels has been broken at the current meeting and it would not be surprising if new marks were created on Saturday Two weeks of racing still will remain at the beautiful Belmont course and in that time will be decided such important events as the Suburban Handicap Roseben Handicap Coaching Club American Oaks Meadow Brook Steeplechase and on the closing day June 7 the National Stallion Stakes and the Belmont Stakes third and last leg of the Triple Crown The Suburban to be iun on May 30 which is Decoration Day has 30000 added and has drawn some of the finest handicap performers now in training Eight Thirty is the high weight with 129 pounds followed by Mioland 127 and the nonstarters Challedon and Bimelech at 126 126Hollywood Hollywood Park in California opens today with the running of the Premiere Handicap and will he followed on the weekend by the 10000 added Haggin Stakes at five and a half furlongs for twoyearolds which are California bred Hollywood always has been progressive in the institution of ideas and gadgets for the improvement of the sport and this season has adopted the BinocMovie Color Recorder which will take eight separate pictures of a race and when pieced together give the complete running in color Though for weeks it has been known that Challedon and Mioland were due to meet in the 75000 Hollywood Gold Cup recent entries include Whirlaway Our Boots and Mrs Pelleteris Bay View winner of the rich Santa Anita Handicap Prior to the running of the Gold Cup however California fans are due to see some splendid sport in 10000 added stake events In all there will be an 800000 distribution during the fifty days of the meeting this making it the richest summer meeting to be staged anywhere in this country The meeting will not close until July 26 when the 25000 added Sunset Handicap will be staged lor threeyearold and older horses at one mile and five furlongs furlongsDelaware Delaware Park just outside of Wilmington will swing open its gates on Friday May 30 and run through July 5 The opening days event will be the 4000 added Dover Stakes at five furlongs for juveniles This is but one of the many attractive events scheduled for this meeting Steeplechasing always has been of major importance at this course and at the meeting ahead they will stage the Spring Maiden Steeplchase on June 11 the Georgetown Steeplechase Handicap on June 18 Indian River Steeple ¬ chase Handicap on June 25 and the Vicmeade Steeplechase Handicap on July 2 There will be three 10000 added events the first being the Kent Handicap exclusively for threeyearolds at one and onesixteenth miles to be run on June 14 On June 1 they will stage the Sussex Handicap at one and onequarter miles for threeyearolds and older horses and on July 5 the Newcastle Handicap for fillies and mares at one and onesixteenth miles Staging the Newcastle for the socalled weaker sex as the closing and the most important stake of the meeting is
