GROOMS OF WINNING HORSES AT OMAHA WILL RECEIVE 5 5Payment Payment Voluntary on Part of Association Open House Sunday SundayOMAHA OMAHA Neb May 22 The AkSarBen race track will give a bonus of 5 to every groom who handles a winning horse at this years race meeting starting next Tuesday May 27 chairman W H Schellberg an ¬ nounced today todayThis This payment is entirely voluntary on our part and has not been requested by the grooms themselves he said However we fully realize that the work of these men has not been sufficiently recognized and we want to do our part to encourage them to keep their horses in the best possible condi ¬ tion This is in keeping with a move by other progressive tracks of the nation nationSmall Small tracks such as ours cannot afford to be as liberal as Santa Anita New York Chicago and other more wealthy ovals but we feel that our contribution is in keeping with the size of our plant and will be just as much appreciated by the grooms groomsDespite Despite the construction of 100 additional stalls in the past ten days the arrivals have more than filled all available stable accommodations and it became necessary yesterday for racing secretary Dick Leigh to advise late applicants not to come to Omaha The registration this year will un ¬ doubtedly be the largest in AkSarBens history Officials also say the caliber of horse flesh is much higher than in previous years yearsAn An open house will be conducted next Sunday with the public invited free to in ¬ spect the plant and witness some trial races
