Pen-neys I Lov Bridge, who gave some hint of her ability to run when she finished third in her initial start here a few days ago, scored a well-deserved victory in the Brookdale Farm Purse, one of the better events at Churchill Downs this afternoon. The daughter of Grand Slam bore out badly all through the stretch run, but jockey Fritz Weidaman kept her going long enough to win by a half length from the well-supported Rewarded, owned by Allen T. Simmons. The Gladacres Farms Ruth Greenock was a distant third and Joseph E. Wide-ners Yellow Poppy next in the field of twelve maiden two-year-old fillies. 1 Lov Bridge did not break in front, but she was not long getting there and once iti tjie lead she protected her advantage to the end. She began to drift out about the three-sixteenths pole and finished far out in the track, but Rewarded, who saved ground and remained down near the inside rail, could not get to her. In taking the place, however. Rewarded was six lengths in advance of Ruth Greenock. Yellow Poppy Slow to Begin The race was contested at four and a half furlongs on a slow track and I Lov Bridge covered it in :55. Yellow Poppy was slow to begin and made up some ground, but she could not menace the leaders and finished a length and a half behind Ruth Greenock. Prognostic showed some early foot here, but she weakened in the drive and wound up fifth. Edith T. also tired after showing early speed. Todays program was given over to some of the less fashionable horses, but for the most part they provided sport of the most thrilling character, and the large crowd seemed to enjoy itself. Two of the most popular winners today were Mrs. Frank P. Letelliers Linger On, who accounted for the second race, and I. J. Collins Wise Fire, who won the third. Both events were contested at six and a half furlongs. Sanders Scores at Long Odds Linger On, handled by S. Parise, was under strong pressure to get her decision over Alrose, but Wise Fire, guided by S. Brooks, won more or less as he pleased. The opening event, a test of six furlongs, produced a long shot winner in Mrs. J. R. Burnetts Sanders, whose supporters received 5.80 foi . This veteran son of Reveille Boy, ridden by N. Jemas, won with three lengths to spare from Fast Start, another outsider, as the favorite, Meritorious, finished third. The Arcturus Stable, whose training recently was taken over by Harry Saladin, provided the winner of the fifth race in Bird High, who outfooted eleven other sprinters at six furlongs. The Arcturus filly was another bearing out all through the stretch, but she won with ease. She was four lengths in advance of the runner-up, Bead, who made all the early pace. Epistle was third.
