I : I ■ ■ , , ; Valdina to Have Starter in Oaks Texas Stable Will Send Valdina Melia Postward In Downs Week-End Stake LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 7.— The Valdina Farms stable of Emerson F. Woodward, which supplied the winner of the Kentucky Oaks last spring, will try for another victory in this old fixture for three-year-old fillies this week-end. This became evident when the stable left Valdina Melia behind as the remainder of the Woodward horses were shipped to Suffolk Downs. Valdina Melia went unplaced in the Rose of Sharon Purse behind Pig Tails here few days ago, but before that she finished third to Proud One and Shortening in the Lassie Purse, and at Keeneland she defeated a field that included Ky. Flash, Equitable and Suprine in the Walnut Springs Purse. The daughter of Granville has been training in steady fashion and in view of this fact the Valdina establishment decided to leave her here for a try in the stake which Valdina Myth took so impressively a year ago. Zoroastra Camden Hope Valdina Melia is being looked after by Roscoe Goose, who also is prepping J. N. Camdens Zoroastra for Saturdays ,000 test of a mile and a sixteenth. Zoroastra also is out to give her owner a second triumph in the Oaks, for Lorraine captured the stake under the Camden silks back in 1920. Another horseman who is hoping for a repeat victory in the Oaks is Dan E. Stewart, whose colors were carried home in front in the filly fixture in 1929 by Rose of Sharon. This spring he is training two likely Oaks fillies in Pig Tails and Tribal Ruler, both owned by Joseph E. Widener. Pig Tails is one of the choices for the Oaks, along with Brownell Combs flashy Miss Dogwood and J. Kel Houssels distance-running Emolument. It is likely that a field of 10 or more will be found mustered for Saturdays race. Some of the others who may be found in the starting lineup are Frank P. Letelliers Questvive and Suprine, J. O. Keenes Hal-cjona, Harry Ekes Pimlico Polly, Mrs. W. W. Scroggins Carlarlass, Mrs. V. E. Smiths Sis Baker, Dixianas Crystal, Brown Hotel Stables Miss Glamour, Mrs. A. N. Gelbs New Glory, Double H Ranchs Filli-beg, J. C. and S. H. Stones Sissie Smith, and D. C. McClures Gold Princess.
