Whirlaway Has Slight Heel Bruise BALTIMORE, Md., May 7. — Whirlaway, who trainer Ben Jones and jockey Eddie Arcaro believe ran his greatest race to capture Wednesdays coveted Dixie at Pimlico, did NOT come out of that history-making contest entirely unscathed. It was learned this morning that Warren Wrights stretch-running four-year-old stepped on a stone and sustained a very slight bruise on the fore-heel. "Its really nothing, and if the Dixie were run this afternoon, he would be a starter," says trainer Jones. "Were tubbing it now, just as a precaution." Trainer Ed Christmas, who has conditioned W. L. Branns gallant Challedon for a successful comeback, said that his charge was shifting from one foot to the other in his stall this morning, a mite sore. His connections advance their belief he wants a soft strip. It isnt expected that any of the big four at the end of the bruising mile and three -sixteenths of Wednesdays Dixie will start back in Saturdays Grey Lag Handicap at Jamaica. This renowned quartet, winners collectively of SI, 000, 000-odd, are Whirlaway first, Attention second, Mioland third and Challedon fourth, with ! less than two lengths separating at the finish.
