• I * * Quatre Bras II. Colt Wins Yearling Award Fitzsimmons Selects Gray Son Of Lola Montez at Pimlico Show BALTIMORE, Md., May 7.— Eighteen colts and 13 fillies participated in the an- nual yearling show sponsored by the Mary- land Horse Breeders Association and held at Pimlico this morning. James Fitzsim- mons, squire of Aqueduct and trainer of three Kentucky Derby winners, acted as judge and selected the Northwood stables gray son of Quatre Bras II. and Lola Mon- tez as the best colt. Second award went to a chestnut by Theatrical and Wise Sis- ter and third to Sagamore farms chestnut son of Identify and Sarah Carlaris and fourth was Howard Bruces son of Chal- lenger II. and Miss Careful. In the filly class a dark brown by Aethel- stan II. and out of Sparky was the winner. She was furnished by Mrs. R. H. Heighe. I Aethelstan II. also sired the second, she being out of Cherokee Sal, and third went to Alfred G. Vanderbilts Discovery filly, i out of Canfli. Harry Straus Burning Star j — Miss Mared representative earned fourth g prize. r Fitzsimmons decided the colt was the -best shown and Mrs. Heighes representative received the reserve award. The managements of Bowie and Havre de Grace each gave a special trophy to the winners of the classes, the champion receiving a special trophy from the breeders association. A novel feature of the show was the open judging contest, with Milton King of Baltimore winning the colt division and Charles J. Meister the filly division. Defense stamps to the tune of 5 were divided among the first, second and third to place in each division of the contest.
