Delaware Park to Distribute 74,900 *Set Minimum Purses at ,100 For Coming Thirty-Day Meet Thirteen Stakes, Three of Which Are 0,000 Added, Will Be Offered Again WILMINGTON, Del., May 11.— A total of 74,900, an all-time high for the racing ; at Delaware Park, will be distributed at the j meeting which gets under way May 29, I according to an announcement from general manager Edward Burke. The meeting runs to and including July 4, with the exception of no racing on the two Mondays, June 8 and 15. Last year at Delaware Park the purse distribution of the association was 41,450. Out of about 60 American racetracks, Delaware Park ranks in the first 10 as regards per diem purse distribution. This is because of the non-profit policy which turns income into either increased purses, or expanded facilities to the public. Burke, a veteran who began a great racing success at Havre de Grace just before the last war, is mindful of the increasing costs that horsemen face in these times of stress. Toward that end the minimum purse has been established at ,100, and it is in these brackets for the ordinary run-of-the-mine thoroughbred that the main increases have been made. Delaware Park will maintain the added money value in each of the 13 stakes. These are headed by the trio of 0,000 features, Kent Handicap, Sussex Handicap and Newcastle Handicap. The Kent, set for June 13, is exclusively for three -year-olds. The Sussex, to be run June 20, is for horses three years old and upward; while the Newcastle, down for decision on the final day, July 4, is exclusively for fillies and mares. Executive Committee Directs Affairs As in the past the executive committee will have the direction of Delawares ultimate policy in what will be the first war meeting for the course just outside of Wilmington. J. Simpson Dean is president of Delaware Park and chairman of the executive committee. The other members of the committee are William duPont, Jr. and Donald P. Ross. The latter also has assumed a new post in the war setup, he having been appointed Delawares state administrator for the sale of war bonds and stamps. John P. Bowditch remains as vice-president and secretary and an officer of the Delaware Turf Club. The complete stake schedule follows: I May 29 — Dover Stakes, ,000, two-year-olds, five furlongs. May 30 — Wilmington Handicap, ,000, three-year-olds and upward, six furlongs. June 6 — Brandywine Handicap, ,000, three-year-olds and upward, one and one-sixteenth miles.
