Illinois News and Notes SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 11. C. T. Leavitt, who recently shipped in the horses of George W. Lawless from the Pacific Coast, will send a couple of horses to the post during the final week of this meeting. The Lawless horses are stabled at Washington Park. Trainer Joe Bollero, who departed for Detroit to take over t he Lexbrook horses, left Gay Elf here for the balance of the meeting. The horse will be shipped to Detroit after this meeting is over. Apprentice W. Gillespie, who was thrown from Starlike when the horse fell during the running of the fifth race, was found to have suffered no injuries. The lad was back riding again Saturday. Fred Seroy, who at first planned to go to the Fairmount Park meeting, has changed his plans and will race his two horses, Three Bangs and My Crest, at Lincoln Fields. Jockey W. L. Johnson, who received a double suspension for crossing over on his field, will be back in the saddle Monday after serving eight days on the ground. Trainer G. L. Kepner will send eight horses belonging to the Farnsworth stable to Montreal at the close of the current meeting. H. A. Deep sold the six-year-old gelding Jay Heart to Charles I. Lorden. Deep will continue to train the gelding for the new owner. Trainer E. B. Carpenter has taken over the horses Helen Agnes and Chicago Dr. to train for the partners, Vasen and Lowry. Rodney C. Groff arrived here with four horses from his farm in Michigan. The stable is headed by Forever Prince. FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., May 11. Racing secretary Leigh called attention to several horses running at Churchill Downs, Sportsmans Park and Beulah Park, during the last week, who will race at Fairmount Park. Several of these won or finished in the money and include, Espino Gold, Fergies Count, Forever Prince, Aerial Torpedo, Smoking Out, Vesuvius, Miss Grief, Distract, Pehamis, Chatted, Gal-Ann, Torchy, Ackwell, Fountain Grove, Pillorlad, Maxiekin, Glimmers-lee, Mention, Norman Sloat, Hogan, Strom-bus, El Cabrillo and others. Word was received that starter C. H. McMillan will arrive at Fairmount on May 20, to set up his electric starting gate for schooling. It also will be used in the test races on Inspection Day, Sunday, May 24. In addition to the test races, actual workouts of horses will be conducted with the fractional time called over loud speaker. Teague Pichon, track clocker and timer, also will arrive on May 20. General manager D. C. Burnett is making plans for appropriate flag-raising ceremonies on Decoration Day. The presence of a soldier, sailor and marine will add to the patriotic gesture. Manager Burnett said all men in uniform will be admitted to the grounds during the meeting on payment of the 20 cents state tax. This is mandatory until the Illinois legislature changes the law. Texas representatives to race at Fair-mount include Alfred McKnight with the following: Red Set, Tiny Bit, Flying Aggie, Green Torch, Midget Store and Red Nib. George McCamey has Easy Flying, Macka Prince, Hes It, Impseen, Robt. Mc, Pearl Harbor, Scotch Pest, Fair Logia and Lazy T. Both stables will ship at the conclusion of the Churchill Downs meeting. Judge Frederic Crafton is confined to St. Marys Hospital, East St. Louis. 111., with a throat infection. Another hospi- talization case from Fairmount during the last week, was Oscar Schumert, in charge of the printing office. Jack Klucina sends word from Chicago that Emil Denemark announced that he will divide his Chicago stable and ship part to Fairmount. In the latter string will be two handicap horses. It is announced that each Tuesday and Friday during the meeting, will be Ladies Day. Payment of the tax only will be required of the fair sex on these days.
