Two candidates for the 5,000 added Yankee Handi- ca, one mile and three-sixteenths test for three-year-olds-which will feature the card here on Independence Day, were on the track this morning for blow-outs designed to fit them for stiffer preps for that stake later in the week. Valdina Farms Rounders, regarded only as a possible starter and to be coupled with Valdina Orphan as an entry in the event he is sent to the post, and Col. E. R. Brad- leys Bless Me, regarded as a certain starter, were both m blown out three-eighths of a mile and accomplished the assignment in :36 handily over the fast racing strip which prevailed this morning. " While most of the attention is centered in the fact there is an excellent possibility of Shut Out and Valdina Orphan meeting in the Yankee at even weights, overlooked is the fact that Bless Me is the kind of a horse who might well provide a surprising , upset in the mile and three-sixteenths test. It will be recalled that the brown son of Sickle and Buginarug extended Alsab to the limit in the Walden Stakes at Pimlico last fall and was only beaten by the smallest of margins. Given Rest After Blue Grass Bless Me was regarded as Colonel Bradleys best candidate for the Kentucky Derby since Bimelech this spring, but did not train for that assignment and Jimmy Smith let up on him temporarily after the Blue Grass Stakes. Since arriving at Suffolk Downs the Bradley colt has been to the races twice and has raced better in each start. In his first .assignment he finished third to Valdina Alpha and Great Rush in a three-quarters of a mile allowance race but was not abused while finishing a length and a half and a neck away from the first money in a race won in 1:11. Last Wednesday he was again sent to the post in a three-quarters of a mile dash. He improved over his previous assignment to whip Arnold Hangers Harvard Square a length and a half while stepping the distance in "1:11. Of course, the Sickle colt was receiving a- weight concession of 10Vz pounds from the Hanger representative but at the same time he showed that he was ready for a longer assignment. The possibility that there will be additional starters in the race is diminishing hourly. Up to. a late -hour today, Chas. J. McLennan, the track racing secretary, had not heard from trainer James F. Fitzsim-mons as to whether or not he intended to ship the Wheatley Stables Eire up to fill his engagement. If only three horses go to the post in the race, it is quite possible that the Eastern Racing Association will call off all place wagering. The management has had a-policy of no show wagering on five-horse events since early in the meeting and in all likelihood would follow this policy through by cancelling place.wagering if the Yankee develops into a three-horse race.
