Colonel Voorhes at Front Royal Depot SAN ANGELO, Texas, Jane 29. Horsemen and thoroughbred breeders throughout the Southwest recently learned with much pleasure that Col. Marion I. Voorhes, Quartermaster Corps, U. S. A., and formerly in charge of the South Central Remount Area here, had been transferred to the Eastern Remount Area, Front Royal, Virginia. Colonel Voorhes left immediately for his new post. While in charge of the Remount Depot here, Colonel Voorhes was stricken with a serious illness, necessitatingxhis being relieved of command and his being sent to the Base Hospital at Fort Sam Houston, following hospitalization at Goodfellow Field here. Recuperating rapidly, Colonel Voorhes returned to San Angelo, and has been on detached duty in recent months. Colonel Voorhes transfer to Front Royal, unexpected by him, came about when Col. Frank Carr, formerly in charge of Lexington, Ky.; area, was transferred to Fort Robinson, Neb., and the officer in charge of Front Royal was transferred to Lexington to assume the post vacated by Colonel Carr. Following Colonel Voorhes. temporary retirement from the San Angelo area, Col.. C. A. Wilkinson, veteran cavalry officer, and one of the Remount Departments top officers, took over. He remains in charge. Colonel Wilkinson is well known throughout Texas and the Southwest, having played polo here for many years. His Army handicap, seven goals, is the highest of any officer in polo circles. Colonel Wilkinson has retired from active participation in polo, but still retains a keen interest in tournament play, now in abeyance because of the war.
