Wednesday Is Deadline For Three Local Stakes ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, III., June 29. Wednesday, July -i, is an important date on Arlington Parks calendar. It is the final date on which nominations may be made for each of three important stakes to be run later in the meeting. The 1irst of these is the ,000 added Green Velvet Handicap, mile and three-sixteenths, on the grass course, to be run July 11. It will be a co-feature with the important 0,000 added Lassie Stakes for two-year-old fillies. The second stake closing on Wednesday is the 0,000 added Matron Handicap, annual one-mile fixture for fillies.and mares, to be run on July 15. Last, and most important of all stakes closing on Wednesday, is the 5,000 added Arlington Handicap for three-year-olds and upward at one mile and one-quarter. This famous fixture, which numbers among its past winners such outstanding horses as Sun Beau, Equipoise and Discovery, will be Arlington Parks final feature attraction on closing day, August 1. The Arlington Handicap, and its counterpart, the Washington Park Handicap, are the most important races of their kind in the middle west and are among the nations foremost events for horses of the handicap division.
