Mercury Outruns Delaware Opponents Is Seven Lengths In Front at Wire Fleet Bryson Juvenile Again Shows High Turn of Speed Place Award to Wise Advice STANTON, Del., June 29. Ella K. Bryson probably is regretting she did not make Mercury eligible to Fridays renewal of the Christiana Stakes. This son of Pair-bypair and Tremendous, a 00 yearling purchase, chalked up his second victory in three starts for the Maryland patron and in so doing ran the five and one-half furlongs over the good and deep track in the splendid time of 1:06 and withing three-fifths of a second of the track record. As in his previous success, Mercury had an abundance of speed and before entering the final half-mile he was coasting along with a two-length advantage. Tom Crawford roused him in the drive and the finish found him seven lengths before J. B. Mahers Wise Advice, who drove through on the outside to outfinish C. W. Moores Letter V. for second. Piccadilly, the winners, sternest opponent during the run to the stretch, was fourth in the field of 10. Entry Odds-On Choice After a Florida debut, which found him well .beaten, Mercury was put away, and he did net re-enter competition until June 20. Tfc . resulted in an easy victory, and today, .oupled with H. M. Babylons The Duck, who raced well back, was a 19 to 20 choice. Hadawin and Letter V. were the only Christiana eligibles in the field and the former stopped badly after reaching second place midway of the drive. Letter V. suffered slight interference during the run to the turn and this probably prevented him from garnering second honors but he would not have downed the speedy winner, who carried 115 pounds, which included the apprentice allowance. Piccadilly, Diamond Back and Letter V. had up 118 pounds each and that was the actual top burden. It. was the first Monday program within three weeks and the crowd was up to the usual standard. Favorites were successful, Mercurys victory being the third for them during the afternoon.
