GRASSHOPPER II, well handled, went to the front early, set the pace under good rating and, responding well when ridden out, retained his advantage to the finish. SAMBOROMBON, on the inside throughout, came determinedly when urged during the stretch run, but could not reach the winner. BALL PLAYER improved his position steadily while racing on the outside, came gamely in the drive, but was not good enough. EUGENE finished determinedly under punishment. COLUMBUS DAY began slowly and closed fast. MARKSMAN faltered after racing for-wardly placed to midway in the stretch. FLORIZAN BEAU did not like the turf course. VALDINA PAUL, slow to begin, worked his way up steadily under good handling, came out slightly entering the stretch and, after takii g command, retained his advantage to the close in spite of bearine in badly. SOME MAN. well placed and a sharp factor throughout, Came to the inside for the drive, was bothered slightly when VALDINA PAUL boie in, but could not overhaul the latter when clear. DISPOSE took command at once, set the pace to the stretch and then faltered WISE FATHER was done after going a half and had no mishaps. GOLD TEDDY raced evenly without mishaps. PANBROOM stumbled immediately after the start and «a« slow in getting back on his stride. CERBERUS was never prominent. SABOTELR. slow to begin and outrun to the final quarter, came to the inside for the drive and finished resolutely under punishment, giving a sharp effort. FINALLY raced evenly the entire trip and had no excuse. IRON BARGE could not better his position under strong handling. TIME WAS forced the pace to midway in the stretch and then gave way. BOSKY DELL, in hand while racing within striking distance of the leaders to the final three-eighths, came to the outside thereafter and finished determinedly under punishment. AVA DELIGHT, on the inside, raced evenly the entire trip and had no excuse. PETE JR. forced the pace until midway in the stretch, then faltered. PITTISTRAW did not like the turf course.
