Strip in Sun Beau Purse BALTIMORE, Md., April 24.— Abrasion, one of Marylands favorites and a one-time stake winner, definitely proved he still re- tains the ability to command attention and he did so in convincing fashion at Pimlico today in triumphantly flaunting the colors of G. T. Strother in the fifth and featured race, titled the Sun Beau. Taking over shortly after the start the son of Canter - Regency did not have any too much diffi- culty in holding off H. Guy Bedwells Undu- la tor when that colt challenged through the stretch and, consequently, the older gelding was able to flash past the finish with three and one-half lengths advantage. OSulli- van Farms Pompeco took the third award, five lengths farther back. The winner and second choice in the wagering brought about a .30 for mutuel pay-off and nego- tiated the six furlongs in 1:144£ over a sloppy track, Blue Twink, who essayed to outsprint the Strother colorbearer during the first quar-it ter of a mile, dropped back steadily therein after and wound up fourth. Edie Jane and Chicago Dr. completed the field in the named order. In spite of dismal weather, intermittent showers contributing even more of a pall, some 8,000 hardy turf fans were on hand to witness interesting racing. Favorites fared rather well. In fact, successes on the part of choices in the first two events resulted in a 0.30 for Daily Double, due to the efforts of the odds-on Miss Ada J., from the Bobanet Stable of R. Bruce Livie, in the opener, and Mrs. J. H. Stotlers Peace Par-n ley in the second. Kirk on Winner An allowance test for four-year-olds and I older in grade "C and carrying a purse valuation of ,500. the feature race was not much of a contest. Aided with a well- - judged ride by Carson Kirk, Abrasion broke 5| alertly and followed after the upstartish i Blue Twink. The latter raced along the rail with the Strother seven-year-old out : in the middle of the strip and practically at the pacemakers throatlatch. Undulator, was not too far back and neither, for that matter, was Chicago Dr. When Kirk so decided he sent Abrasion up to throttle Blue Twink in short order. Thereafter all that was necessary to insure j victory was for Kirk and his mount to reach the finish. Through the stretch Undulator, who had raced prominently but t unable to seriously threaten, charged after c the winner but the attempt was of no avail. The program began with a six furlongs 3 dash for three-year-olds of the ,500 claiming variety and this afforded the l heavily-played Miss Ada J. to hang up a 10 lengths score over Miss Freedom with Rampage third A band of two-year-olds came out in the second to do battle over four and one-half [ furlongs and at the finish Peace Parley had j four lengths to spare. He came from not too far off Audibles early pace to assume command early in the stretch and then | hold the latter off in the drive to the line. Faba was third. The sprint was covered in J :57 by the winner and he rewarded at .60 I for . Eight steeplechasers met in the third, ! Treford and Muffled Drums fell by the wayside, and the winner turned up in G. H. " Bostwicks Simoon who was out" on his feet at the end. J. H. SKIRVIN— Sent out A. C. Ernsts Aloraye to score at odds-on in the Creek-view Purse at the Downs yesterday.
