Calumet Trio Goes In Boniface Purse ; | Armed, Miss Keeneland and | Twilight Tear Are Among Six Chesapeake Eligibles Named j BALTIMORE, Md.. April 24.— Tomor- ; rows main attraction at Pimlicos com- bined meeting of Marylands four major j tracks is the Boniface Purse, an allowance : j affair exclusively for three-year-olds, car- j rying a purse of ,000 and to be contested j over six furlongs. Carded sixth on the 1 I i program of eight races, it brings together six eligibles to Saturdays Chesapeake Stakes, of which, incidentally, three are representatives of Calumet Farm. This trio comprises Armed, scheduled under conditions of the test, to carry 110 pounds, and the stalwart filly pair, Twilight Tear and Miss Keeneland, both imposted at 117 pounds. Other candidates to the 5,000 added Chesapeake are Mrs. R. Carruthers Jimmie, W. L. Branns Declared and Mrs. A. J. Abels Gramps Image. The lone re- j maining three-year-old in tomorrows tilt • not named for Saturdays important fix- | ture is Hilton Dabsons Nances Ace. Await Twilight Tears Effort Should Twilight Tear turn in a satis- j factory endeavor tomorrow the capable J | ! daughter of Bull Lea — Lady Lark, will in i j all probability form an entry with Pensive ; j J In the Chesapeake. Trainer Ben Jones has j always favored this likeable miss. Although ! he is not inclined to pit her generally 1 : j against colts, preferring that she, as well 1 j as Miss Keenelands objectives, be re-1 stricted to races limited to fillies, the former -! perhaps shall do better against the ? j stronger sex Saturday. Incidentally, both i fillies breezed this morning, going four . i furlongs over a sloppy track in :5035 and j j as a team. Of the two only Miss Keene- j land has to date competed here. She ran 1 ! j a disappointing race on that occasion. On: I the other hand. Twilight Tear, who has s ; not been out since the Florida season, j showed to advantage one afternoon over j this strip in a private trial between races, j She rounded out six furlongs in 1 : 14?5 s over a good track and was not too overly r extended. No doubt the Calumet entry will rule i J favorite for tomorrows feature. Others in the test hardly measure up in ability to , ! the Devils red and blue colorbearers. [ Jimmie had his chances and proved want- " i i ing. In his last effort he was definitely! no match for Calumets Pensive, who, him- ! self is no world beater. Declared, too, hadj i I a few opportunities to gather a reputation i, j but as yet has not shown any particular t j desire to run. He may have been a bit t short. Gramps Image was beaten in his s lone sally to date here, as was Armed. However, in that outing he was the runner-up to Director J. E. and the Ella K. Bryson three-year-old is considered one of fl j the better members of his division. Rounding out tomorrows offering are e j three other sprint races, an equal number r of distance events and a steeplechase number. Listed third this two miles brush | affair will be contested by Bar Ship, Zoom- -I I ing, Noview, Burma Road. Sir Bluesteel I I I and Winged Hoofs.
